Spreading Christmas Cheer!
As our senior year came near, we needed some ideas of what to do for our community studio project that would benefit the community we live in. Ideas came and went as our junior year was ending. Senior year approached and we have no idea what we were getting ourselves into. Multiple ideas passed our minds and one stuck with us. The idea of giving back to the community that gave so much to us. Our idea was holiday care packages. These packages would be given to the seniors in our community that may not get very much for holiday season. We both wanted to give back to the community so we can show them how much we appreciate them. To begin our project we asked the community and school system to donate items that we thought were needed to make these holiday packages useful. Some of the items include: coffee mug, coffee, crosswords, playing cards, blankets, seasonal decorations, and many more. We started asking for these items December 3rd. For these donations we had four drop off sites. The First National Bank, the Lyons library, Happy Days Senior Center and finally Lyons-Decatur Northeast schools. All of these donations have came from people as young as preschoolers in school to seniors in our community that want to help out the other elders in our community that may not have very much. We have received over 300 items, with these items we are planning to package and deliver 16 holiday care packages to the Lyons and Decatur communities before Christmas. We have been only been working on this project for about a month now and we have reached our goal for the amount of products we will need to put in our packages. This wouldn’t have been possible without the generosity of our community and school.
